but I suppose JOHN CARRADINE likes a challenge. So in CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN he takes a gorilla and makes an ACQUANETTA. Not too much happens in this lesser Universal horror flick (available on the UNIVERSAL HORROR CLASSIC MOVIE ARCHIVES )set but I suppose it does deliver the gorilla to girl transformation. The set was a Best Buy exclusive and is for the time being is out of print. It also had the pretty good Lon Chaney Jr. flick MAN MADE MONSTER, BELA LUGOSI in NIGHT MONSTER and THE BLACK CAT (1941) and HORROR ISLAND. CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN has a lot of Clyde Beatty lion taming which gets dull but ACQUANETTA is a pretty curvy babe even if she is a gorilla on the inside. For whatever reason, Carradine names his ape woman Paula Dupree. There were two cheaper sequels, JUNGLE WOMAN and JUNGLE CAPTIVE. Seems like a lot of mad science back then was all about the glands.
